Ted Haggard is busy these days on a media circuit trying to restore his public image. He is the subject of an HBO documentary, has taped an episode on Oprah and will appear on Larry King.
Haggard is the former head of the National Association of Evangelicals and former pastor of a large church in Colorado. He left public life a couple of years ago after a male prostitute made public Haggard’s immorality. In November 2006, I blogged about this story.
Haggard recently criticized his former church which graciously provided spiritual and financial help to Haggard and his family. He has erroneously attributed support from Nancy Pelosi. Now another victim of his is speaking out. Haggard is again demonstrating the ego and pride that initially led to his downfall. I strongly urge Haggard to avoid the media circus, stay home with his family and continue to work on the inner demons that brought him down.
His current actions indicate that he still doesn’t get it. He may feel better about himself, but he is re-opening the wounds for his family, his victims and his former church.
